Dr. Vega was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and graduated from San Benito High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Science with Honors from the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg and went on to attend medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he received a full scholarship via the Lozano Long Scholarship Fund. He participated in the Regional Academic Health Center program in Harlingen for his third and fourth years of medical school. Dr. Vega then completed his residency in General Psychiatry at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he served as Assistant Chief Resident during his third year and Chief Resident during his final year of residency.
