SUMMARY:Oscar Casares\, Reading & Signing of "Amigoland"
DESCRIPTION:''Amigoland''\, the first novel written by Texas Southmost College alumnus Oscar Casares\, is set in the border city of Brownsville and involves a family dispute between two elderly brothers. Don Fidencio is 91 years old and a resident of Amigoland\, the fictional nursing home from which he is continually plotting his escape. The younger brother\, Don Celestino\, is recently widowed and romatically involved with his housekeeper Socorro\, a woman more than 30 years his junior. After the brothers reconcile\, they agree to travel to northern Mexico to solve the mystery at the heart of their dispute: the legend of how their grandfather was kidnapped and brought to the United States. As the unlikely trio heads south\, they learn it's never too late for a new beginning. The campus will also host Casares in September as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. For more information\, call 956-882-6737.
