Small business owners are invited to attend a free social media seminar at the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, in Harlingen on August 10 from 9 am to 11 am. "Introduction to Social Media for Small Business" gives a broad overview of the various social media tools that can help businesses connect with customers. The workshop is presented by The University of Texas-Pan American Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and also teaches entrepreneurs how social media fits into a company's marketing strategy. Senior Business Advisor Janie Caballero stresses that the seminar is for business owners who may not be too familiar with social media but desire to learn more about its value and how it fits into an existing marketing plan. She adds, "Most business owners are familiar with social media and may already have a social presence online but few entrepreneurs understand how social networking ties into an existing marketing strategy. Much like print or radio ads, social media marketing must also be in line with existing branding efforts. This is important to know when planning campaigns and measuring results and especially when allocating marketing resources within a company." Pre-registration is required. To sign up for this seminar or for further information, please call the Chamber at (956) 423-5440. The SBDC is a component of the Business Development & Innovation Group at UTPA. Its main office is located at 2412 South Closner in Edinburg. For further information on all its services, please call (956) 665-7535.
