Businesses receive financial management training through workshops and conference

(Rio Grande Valley, TX) Local small business owners can receive free, basic training on understanding and managing business finances through free, half-day workshops. Specialty topics related to financial management will also be offered through a free, full-day conference.

The workshops and conference are partly sponsored by the BBVA Foundation in partnership with the UTPA Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The half-day workshop “Financial Basics & Analysis for Small Business Owners” covers the following business topics: Revenue and Expenses; Costs and Pricing; Profit & Loss Statement; Balance Sheet; Cash Flow Statement; Tools for Sales Growth; Use of Proceeds; and Sources of Financing. They will be held at the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on March 19th; the SBA District Office in Harlingen on March 27th; the UTPA CESS Building in Edinburg on May 7th.

“Plan. Build. Secure: Grow and Protect Your Small Business Equity for Tomorrow” is a full-day conference on April 8th in Edinburg with expert speakers discussing business value; credit; financial decisions on the bottom line; protecting your investment; credits, deductions, and taxes; and ending with a keynote presentation on the financial business practices of successful business owners by Robert McDaniel, City President for BBVA Compass – McAllen.

UTPA SBDC Director Maria Juarez-Serna encourages small business owners to sharpen their money management skills through training: “It’s critical that business owners have a solid grasp of their finances for long-term sustainability. Some of the most important business decisions that business owners will make are ultimately expressed in financial documents. We encourage local business owners to participate in any of these workshops as well as the conference and pick up valuable information for the success of their businesses.”
