The American Heart Association's 2011 Wes Lepard Heart Walk will be held at the Marine Military Academy on Saturday, Oct. 1. Individuals, organizations and businesses are invited to enter the non-competitive, 5k walk/run, and participate by increasing public awareness about heart disease! Whether you will walk for yourself, a survivor, or in someone's memory, this event will bring the community together to support the cause. Walkers are urged to raise donations for the American Heart Association that support public education programs and fund life-saving research. AHA hopes to reach total donations of $90,000 this year in Harlingen. The event is named after Wes Lepard, a former board member of the Valley Baptist Health System, who died of a heart attack. Lepard was a man of integrity, strength, and generosity who lived a life of service and achievement. He was admired for his volunteer leadership and his efforts to improve health services for the people of South Texas. To register online for the walk, go to www.harlingenheartwalk.org. There are no registration fees! For details or any questions, call or email the Harlingen Heart Walk team (Caitlin Martone & Amy Knudsen) at 888.433.7220 x2432 or HarlingenHeartWalk@heart.org.
