In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, the community is invited to see the Student Choir from St. Anthony Catholic School perform during a Mass this Sunday, January 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, E. Van Buren at 11th Street in Harlingen. This School Choir is well known in Harlingen for singing at various community events. School students will also read passages from the Bible and serve as altar servers during the Mass. Following the Mass, the community is invited to a book fair in the School Library, located in the Main Building for St. Anthony Catholic School at the corner of E. Harrison and 11th Street ... the book fair will be open until 1 p.m. Sunday. The book fair will also be open during the week during Catholic Schools Week, which runs through Friday, Feb. 5. Members of the community who would like to tour the school and meet the principal, Mrs. Esther Flores, and teachers, are invited to visit during school hours during the week, or call 423-2486 for an appointment. On Friday, Feb. 5, Catholic Schools Week in Harlingen will conclude with a special Mass at 8 a.m. honoring all area priests, in observance of the "Year of the Priest" which has been proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI. Following the Mass, St. Anthony's Student Council will prepare a brunch for the priests. This will be followed by an annual Family Picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the grounds outside the school.
