The Children’s Museum of Brownsville will host a paramount student art exhibit entitled ''The Child & The Divine'' at the Future Artists of America Gallery from September 24 – October 25, 2009. The works of art were created by children with special needs who attended Brite’s Special Spot Art Workshop at the Children’s Museum.
The newly-founded art program, Brite’s Special Spot, provides a weekly workshop that encourages children with special needs to develop the skills necessary to create individual works of art. The student exhibit intends to raise awareness for different disabilities prevalent among children as well as to applaud the accomplishments of special needs students who regularly attend the workshops.
Artist Frida Garza heads Brite’s Special Spot Art Workshop every Saturday, a class designed for children with special needs. Garza is an accomplished art teacher and founder of Frida’s Art Wokshop and serves as a volunteer instructor for the Children’s Museum of Brownsville. She also hosts Art Sunday, Around the World, a monthly workshop that teaches children to paint in the style of different masters of fine art, like Pablo Picasso.
A private reception for ''The Child & The Divine'' exhibit will be held for the participants and their families on Wednesday, September 23rd from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. The event will honor these dedicated child artists and provide them an opportunity to share the fruit of their labor on colorful canvases with family, friends and teachers.
The unrestricted opening for the extraordinary exhibit ''The Child & The Divine'' is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Admission is FREE to the public, in conjunction with the regularly scheduled Community Nig
