High school students and other interested participants will have the opportunity to learn about careers, employment trends impacting their futures, two- and four-year college opportunities and more at the 2009 Education and Career EXPO taking place on Thursday, September 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the TSTC Fieldhouse. The EXPO is a community-wide effort by a consortium of private and public leaders whose goal is to bring awareness of available educational and employment opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley to residents aged 16 and over, and to encourage them to stay in school, pursue a degree and compete successfully for careers that pay well and improve their quality of life. The eighth annual Education & Career EXPO will provide a glimpse of training and college requirements that become the paths to future careers. For the first time, a Construction Careers component has been added to the program, and placement of exhibits will be grouped in accordance with the 16 career clusters adopted by the State of Texas. Interested individuals and groups from public schools, charter schools, private schools, home schools, workforce youth programs, and potential exhibitors are invited to attend. There will be tours of the TSTC campus, door prizes and an EXPO Essay Competition. The competition is open to participants who submit essays after visiting the EXPO. Awards will be presented for the three best essays submitted. To register as an exhibitor or a sponsor, call the Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce at (956) 423-5440, or Tech Prep of the Rio Grande Valley at 800.852.8784, extension 4509, or 956.364.4509.
