PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING FOR VALLEY MEN THIS SATURDAY IN HARLINGEN HARLINGEN -A free "Know Your Stats" prostate screening for Valley men will be held this Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen, Wound Care Center, in the Valley Baptist Medical Arts Pavilion, 2nd Floor (2121 Pease St., Entrance A, Suite 201). The screening includes a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test and a DRE (digital rectal exam) with Dr. Manuel Espinoza, Urologist. Refreshments will be provided, but reservations are required by calling 1-888-902-5433. __________________________________________________________________ BACKGROUND INFORMATION - KNOW YOUR STATS The free "Know Your Stats" event is co-sponsored by the National Football League along with Valley Baptist and the American Urological Association Foundation. The event, open to all Valley residents, is part of a national campaign by the NFL to encourage all men over 40 to talk with their doctors about their PSA (prostate-specific antigen) score and to get regular physical exams. Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in American men, and one of the leading causes of cancer death among all men, including Hispanics. Each year, more than 240,000 American men are diagnosed with prostate cancer - and more than 33,000 of them die. About 1 man in 6 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. More than 2 million men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer are still alive today in the U.S. About 1 man in 36 will die of prostate cancer.
