Tickets are available for the Harlingen Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast that will be held in the Harlingen Community Center, 201 E. Monroe Ave., at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 6.
This year’s theme is “Hope for the Community.” Tickets are free for the public and may be picked up at the First Community Bank, 806 S. 77 Sunshine Strip, and Texas Regional Bank, 2019 S. 77 Sunshine Strip. Pastor Mark Molina of Living Waters Church in Harlingen said about 120 tickets of the original 600 tickets are available and details about the event are available by phoning him at (956) 238-0089.
“The breakfast will follow the theme because the committee and organizers believe this is a good time to give spiritual hope to the community. We raised funds so tickets and the breakfast are free because we want a cross-section of the community to attend regardless of their socio-economic background. We want everyone possible to come,” Molina said.
The main speakers and their topics will be Harlingen High School South football Coach and Athletic Coordinator Lanny Wilson, “Creating an Environment of Hope”; Harlingen High School football Coach and Athletic Coordinator Manny Gomez, “Sustaining Hope,” and Loaves and Fishes Homeless Shelter Executive Director Pastor Bill Reagan, “Giving Hope to the Homeless.” Each speaker will lead a prayer, Molina said, and Mayor Chris Boswell will make brief remarks.
The Chick-fil-A restaurant in Harlingen donated the breakfast items. The opening ceremonies will be led by members of local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
