With Hurricane season in full swing, are you hurricane ready? Hurricane season officially began on June 1st and runs through the end of November, with peak months in August and September. Planning ahead can help you protect yourself, your family, your property and your business during hurricane season. Since its inception in 1953, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has served to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small businesses. While SBA is generally known for the financial support it provides to small businesses, it also plays a critical role in assisting the victims of natural and other disasters. SBA provides disaster assistance through capital, counseling, and contracting services. Its Disaster Loan Program helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private nonprofits fund their recovery. SBA and Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) will conduct a workshop on hurricane preparedness. TDI is committed to promote hurricane safety and education, together with the development and enforcement of coastal building codes, in an effort to save lives and property. Highlights include: ? SBA assistance when faced with a hurricane disaster. ? SBA direct financing for your home or business. ? Awareness of business and homeowner policy differences in the coastal counties, certifications and inspection requirements. ? Changes to the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) policies and provisions, as they are critical to understand policyholder rights. ? Keeping and getting insurance.
