Wild Horse & Burro Adoption January 28-30 Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds Mercedes, Texas The U.S. Bureau of Land Management offers wild horses and burros for adoption. These are animals that once roamed free on public lands in the West where they are protected by Federal law. Excess animals are periodically removed from the range and made available to the public for adoption. Application approval is required and can be done on site. Minimum adoption fee for most animals is $125. Schedule Thursday: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Preview animals and application approval Friday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Competitive bid adoption begins at 10 a.m.; Walk-up adoptions (first-come-first-served) follow until 6 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. - noon Walk-up adoptions continue Call toll free 866-4-MUSTANGS or visit www.blm.gov/nm for more information.
